Sitting over 13,000 feet above the landscape, I knew there was no way I would get out of Antigua, Guatemala without hiking this beast. This non-active volcano provides front row seats to Volcan de Fuego, an active volcano that erupted in June 2018…sadly killing almost 200 people.
I had read previous blogs about it and was skeptical on my ability to complete it. I consider myself a fit person, but the stories I read were pretty intense. Nonetheless, all came to the same conclusion……the views made it worth it. Plus the fact you get to see an active volcano erupt…that wasn’t really on my bucket list but once I found out it was a possibility, it immediately became one.Read more
One thing I’ve learned about traveling alone is….you’re never really alone. Perhaps it’s because everyone is in the same predicament as you. Getting away, exploring, letting loose, and meeting new people. When I go up to a random group of people and introduce myself here in the states, I get the hesitant, awkward, distrusting looks and hellos…it takes me a minute to break that barrier down. Not once did I have this issue while traveling. Everyone wants to meet everyone.Read more
I don’t think I’ve ever seen my dad as terrified as he was when I told him my plans to backpack Central America…alone.
“What’s wrong? Is something going on in your life? Why do you feel the need to do this?”, were his immediate questions.
Once I was able to convince him I wasn’t on drugs nor was I going through a 30 year life crisis, he calmed down a bit. After all, he knew he had no choice as I wasn’t asking for permission.Read more
